Sweet rolls with your favorite jam

Sweet rolls with your favorite jam.  I’m not sure if it’s a traditional Russian dessert or not but it doesn’t really matter, this recipe is perfect for just about any occasion and it is so very easy and quick to prepare and cook. They are wonderful warm or cold and can be served with fresh berries or with a little ice cream. Otherwise just let your guests delight the sweet rolls with a cup of tea or coffee – perfect! Amazing dessert if your guests come without notice. You’ll spend no more that 30 min to bake my favorite sweet rolls!

Not sure if I need to praise the sweet rolls as pictures speak for themselves.  You’ll definitely spend more time reading a recipe than cooking them! Anyway here’s the

Pastry:

2 yolks

160 gram butter room temperature

100 gram sour cream

1 teaspoon baking soda

350-400 gram flour

Filling:

Your favorite confiture/jam + grinded nuts (by taste)

If you did not forget to add some ingredients,  the pastry should be as shown in the picture! :)

Instructions!

Mix all ingredients except flour in a medium bowl (I used my own tools – hands)! Gradually add enough flour to make a stiff batter that pulls away from your arms, than knead on a lightly floured surface until smooth and elastic, about 7-10 minutes, add more flour if necessary.  Shape into flattened round and cut into 2 equal parts.  Roll into thin circle each part of pastry using floured rolling pin, spread with the filling thinly. Try to cut the circle into equal sectors.  Fold each sector into roll starting from the wide side.  Arrange each roll in a baking tray covered with cookie sheet. Brush top of each roll with whisked egg. Bake in oven heated to 356F for 20-25 min or until golden brown. Dust baked sweet rolls lightly with powdered sugar. They look great and taste delicious! Your guests will be impressed!

Looks very yummy and you’ve mentioned the guidance very clearly. I fairly like sweet taste, so I may change the jam with cheese.

These little wonders look delicious, and thanks for the great recipe and instructions.

I always like to try new things, so when I see something that I might like, I rush to the kitchen and bake it. Even if I’m a guy, being a food lover has got me to learn how to cook, and the best part is that I love to cook.

    Thanks for the recipe!

My parents are from Russia and when we were kids she used to make us those same type of sweet rolls. I loved those so much. My mom passed away and I never got to find out how she made them. I was never really into cooking grown up. Then when I got married I eventually learned how to cook.

Wow, these sweet rolls look amazing! I really love this food, and it’s not hard to make. I like that it doesn’t take long to make it. I can see myself making this dessert. Thanks

I love a little treat with morning tea or coffee…these rolls are just the ticket and a bit of a variation on the cinnamon bun. Can’t wait to try out the recipe.

  • Jill@Antique Drafting Table December 15, 2009, 10:00 pm

They look good! I think i will use a cinnamon filling and maybe some thin sliced apples. Yummy! Thanks

A traditional Russian desert or not they look lovely. The serving suggestion of a cup of tea sounds really nice too. But I’m an ice cream nut – and I am always on the look out for treats that would go well with ice cream. The choice of filling would go well with a choice of ice cream flavours – to make any number of combinations. Mouth watering or what!

Wow! They look incredibly tasty, and there are almost indefinite variations for the filling.

  • mark@pasquini livia 90 June 9, 2010, 9:51 pm

Seriously, my mouth was watering from those pictures. I think that I personally would use a natural strawberry jam because I hate the jams that are filled with so much sugar is that it makes you want to gag when you eat them.

  • Betty@ Girls Sleeping Bags August 5, 2010, 3:37 am

Delicioso! It’s a great alternative instead of using cinnamon. This is really worth a try. Let me now get the oven ready!

  • Karen@salon August 30, 2010, 7:09 pm

The photos make me hungry. Looks like so yummy. What’s the best bakeshop in Russia that serves yummy Sweet Rolls? Oh I wanna taste Sweet Rolls from Russia. :) I ‘ll look for this once I got there.

  • Jon@Baltimore DUI Lawyer September 1, 2010, 1:26 am

  • Matt, Melbourne Restaurants September 20, 2010, 9:07 am

Great to find easy to make snack recipes that have ingredients that are already found in my pantry! My family will enjoy this at home.
Will try to experiment with different types of fillings too.
*I’ve also read your ‘blini post’ and it was something new for me to consider putting ‘meat fillings’ in blinis, aside from the typical fish roe or cheese. So hope you write more posts about our common misconceptions about Russian food.

    Thanks again,

That looks like such a delicious recipe, swiss roll with jam is my favourite and this looks really similar.

  • Lari Iposhk September 30, 2010, 5:44 am

Wow, that recipe is so easy to make. And the ingredients aren’t har to find here on our place. Thanks for sharing your recipe mate!

  • Peter@ Cinnamon Health Benefits October 11, 2010, 6:21 pm

Delicious looking rolls! I would dust them with some cinnamon powder for a sweet and healthy alternative.
